The merits of hair transplants is a subject we often return to but this is only because we want people considering this route to be fully informed. Hair transplantation is a very delicate form of plastic surgery where the results are literally staring people in the face so it is essential that the decision to opt for surgery is taken carefully with all the facts.
Often price is key factor in making the decision to go for surgery but this is a mistake. When the results are lifelong, the outcome should be the main concern. For this reason we urge caution about looking to Turkey or elsewhere overseas where standards (and safety) may be compromised. That’s not to say that you’re always better with surgery in the UK, however, as there have been well documented rogue clinics here too. The main thing is to thoroughly do your homework and remember that hair transplantation does not create new hair, all it involves is moving existing hair. If your hair is thick enough elsewhere, transplants may be a good option especially if the hair loss is localised and the thinning has stopped but if your hair loss is still progressing, with more likely, and limited donor hair, surgery could create more problems than it will solve.
The first port of call may be to check out the recent programme on BBC3 “Plastic Surgery Undressed” which showed a hair transplant operation to potential candidates. Even here though, remember that unscrupulous operators would not allow such access to the media so this does not reflect the standard of care offered by all clinics here and abroad.
Surgery is not the only choice available to men (and women) affected by hair loss so to discuss your own situation, please don’t hesitate to call or drop us an email. At Hair Technology International we are always happy to help any way we can.
