The recent hot spell and forthcoming summer holiday period means that this is the ideal time to go over a few basics in hair care, based upon the advice we receive from our suppliers in the States. Before going in the pool or the ocean:
– Soak your hair thoroughly with clean water.
– Apply conditioner or leave-in conditioner to your hair. This will prevent the hair from soaking up as much chlorine or salt by giving it a barrier of protection.
– for females, put your hair in a ponytail or loose braid if possible.

After getting out of the water:
– Immediately wash your hair thoroughly with shampoo and conditioner (this is very important).

Sun exposure:
– Minimize sun exposure to the hair.
– Use a leave-in conditioner with UV protection.
– In extreme sunshine, hats are always helpful.

Most importantly if you are off on holiday – enjoy yourself!

Often when transplants are carried we find it is on the basis of false expectations. That is why at Hair Technology we always suggest that this should be carefully thought out as the results will be lifelong.

Although we don’t and never have offered transplants, we have over 25 years experience of helping people with inappropriate scalp surgery so this makes us ideally suited to offer advice either pre or post surgery.

We were recently asked what could we do to help people where transplants have been unsuccessful or where the results have disappointed. As was correctly pointed out, we cannot reverse inappropriate surgery or repair badly damaged donor area however for years we have been helping people disguise the damaged area on a semi-permanent basis and get on with a normal life, without the need for hair fibres, concealers or the like.

Using site specific, non surgical grafting we can offer anyone the opportunity to move on from their bad experience. The results are guaranteed and for people who have been left with hair loss or scarring following any form of surgery to the head or radiotherapy, this is a proven solution. More than one area can be addressed and the size can vary from as little as a couple of square inches to the full head (although we always try to use as much of the client’s own hair as possible).

We accept that this may not the choice of everyone but to suggest that anyone with scarring is beyond help is simply not true. We have been offering this help for years and continue to do so, day in day out.

As you may know Hair Technology is coordinating financial assistance for a nursery caring for 145 underprivileged local children aged 3-7 in one of the poorest parts of The Gambia, which itself is one of the poorest countries in Africa.

We have pledged to match all funds raised by clients towards achieving our goal of fully kitting out the nursery and making a difference for the local community. The last visitors before our visit were over three years ago so we felt we had to help.

The past few days have been a bit of an education for us at Hair Technology. We have spent over two decades offering people help with their hair loss, always to the best of our ability. So when we were asked to help following the sudden closure of KSL Hair, we thought this was the right thing to do. Since then we have the subject of inaccurate and distorted comments on various forums. Anyone who knows us or who has ever dealt with us knows the sort of people we are. It’s a shame that sometimes it’s easier to walk by rather than offer to help but and it’s in our nature to try to make a difference – that’s why we started all those years ago.

For the sake of clarity on our role with the former KSL clients, we would like to make it absolutely clear that Hair Technology has been asked by Shawbrook Bank to provide aftercare for former KSL customers that have requested such aftercare.

We have NOT been asked to provide any clinical opinions or reviews.

We are aware that many former KSL customers are being given appointments to see a consultant plastic surgeon / hair specialist, both of which are NOTHING to do with Simon Lindsay or KSL.

As the old saying goes “never let the facts get in the way of a good story” and that certainly seems to be the case following the closure of KSL Hair in Glasgow.

Over the years, we have worked from 79 West Regent Street in Glasgow and seen a number of similar businesses within the same building come and go (Skolas, West Regent Street Clinic and The Hair and Skin Centre to name a few) but never before have we been wrongly implicated. Just to set the record straight, we have to underline that Hair Technology is an independent company which has been under the same ownership and control since it’s inception. We started trading in 1993 and incorporated in 1996. Since then we have always sought to offer impartial help and advice – as we don’t do surgery but have 25 years experience helping those who have had transplants, scalp reductions, etc. we are perfectly placed to offer advice on a person’s suitability (or not) for surgery.

From our years of experience we know that whether or not someone has had surgery, if they are unhappy with their hair there can be an overwhelming sense of isolation and desperation and this is why we always offer a sympathetic ear. This has also created an environment for often inaccurate reporting on social media which is a pity as we are fully supportive of plans to control more tightly the availability of surgery. In fact over the years we have devoted much time trying to warn people considering surgery from going ahead if we feel their expectations are unrealistic – hardly something that would sit comfortably with a hair transplant business!

Recently the titles of our blogs have been compiled in a wholly accurate manner to suggest we are affiliated with KSL Hair. To be clear, our posts on that business (the contents of which are self-explanatory) were aimed at reaching out to anyone in need. This remains the case but we have added the word “Closure” to the title of the 24th March blog entry to ensure there are no similar misunderstandings. It is just a pity the next two entries entitled “the original and the best” and “Hair Technology International” hadn’t been treated similarly!

Over the years our client base has increased annually usually through recommendations and word of mouth. We still believe that surgery should always be the last option to consider and only then after doing full research and shopping around.
