As our earlier blog articles will show, at Hair Technology International we always urge caution when someone is considering transplants. Many younger men see transplants as their way of getting their hair back, like certain high profile footballers.

The main consideration is that the results are life-long, for good or for bad. For the right person with realisitic expectatios, transplants can be life improving but for the wrong person or someone with unrealistic expectations, the outcome can be devastating.

In the UK, we are lucky to have regulatory bodies overseeing the surgical work being undertaken, here in Scortland by a new Department overseen by the Scottish Government. Overseas this protection often isn’t there.

A quick search of the internet will bring up literally hundreds of competing clinics operating overseas, offering cut price surgery. The country we hear mentioned most often is Turkey – in Istanbul alone there are over 350 clinics. The main attraction is that surgery in the UK costing £10,000 to £15,000 is offered for as little as £1,500. Now whilst at Hair Technology International we are all for value, permanent surgery is probably not the best place to look for unrealistic savings.

There have been reports of unsafe or outdated practices, nurses (not qualified surgeons) carrying out the surgery and post operative complications to name but a few issues so if you are thinking of going down this route please do your research thoroughly and exercise extreme care! If in doubt, we would recommend surgery should always be kept as a last option.

Being a complete hair care centre, at Hair Technology International we are proud to offer an in-house trichological diagnosis and treatment service. So what is Trichology?

Online there are many complicated definitions but in it’s simplest form, Trichology is knowing healthy, growing hair and being able to recognise problems and their likely causes. After diagnosis, a course of treatments may be recommened which would involve specialist trichological products aimed at correcting any imbalances or weaknesses identified in the hair.

Trichology is a science so we use our laboratory to analyse individual hair samples to allow us to go into great details on the formation of the hair which often pinpoints the treatment required.

Whilst science may not have all the answers, for many people Trichology is a good starting point in finding out why they are experiencing any problems with their hair. As the old phrase goes “knowledge is power” so at Hair Technology International we truly beleive that through our trichological service we are empowering people who might otherwise feel helpless or afraid when faced with hair loss or hair thinning.

Now is the time of year when many people are heading to the sun on their annual holidays. If you are one of our clients travelling, we would like to wish you all the best for your holidays – for those still at home, it’s business as usual for Hair Technology International, with us being available six days a week, including two evenings.

If you are experiencing hair loss just be careful if you are in strong sunlight as the scalp is often one of the first areas to burn. If possible, apply a sunscreen to avoid burning but if this isn’t practical, a suitable hat will help prevent any damage.

Although your hair cannot get a sunburn, the sun can harm it in other ways. Prolonged exposure to the sun’s ultra-violet A and B (UVA and UVB) rays can damage your hair from its cuticle to its inner structure. If you plan on spending time in the sun, it is important to protect your hair from its damaging effects.

Excessive exposure to the sun can cause weak, dry and brittle hair. It can also make your hair more susceptible to split ends. Chemically lightening or bleaching your hair can make your hair particularly vulnerable to the damaging effects of the sun, but the sun can also damage healthy, non-chemically altered hair.

4) If technology improves and something like hair cloning becomes a reality, non-surgical procedures will in no way prevent a client from moving onto this new technology,. With surgery once the work is completed that’s it – for good or for bad! In other words as surgical techniques improve, those who have had “old” surgery risk being left behind

5) If you change your mind now or at any time with our non-surgical procedures this is a choice open to you. Bad surgery is a problem for life.

Looking back over our posts on hair loss and hair replacement, you may find some that are helpful and others not so. Okay, so we aren’t really superheroes but sometimes clients come to us and think we are.

An example was earlier this week when a client came to us from a hairdressers which had recently branched into hair replacement. When he came in his system had been wrongly sized, badly prepared and styled. Although we couldn’t make everything perfect, he was delighted and looked like a new man when he left.

There are two points in this story : firstly we aren’t just here for our existing clients but we will try to help anyone who comes to us no matter where they have been dealing with. Okay so it’s a terrible pun but the point we’re trying to make is that to get the trendiest cuts and styles, you need a full head of hair.
